strange ways

By

This has been a strange week already. Early Monday morning (i.e. ~8 a.m.) my son woke me up – “Mom, get up, please, I need to go to the emergency room.” If that sentence doesn’t make you sit bolt upright!

My son (my ‘baby’), Hugh, is 42 years old and lives with us (his father and me). He was having severe pains in his mid-body. So, off to the walk-in clinic we go. He is covered by Kaiser Permanente insurance so we go to the clinic in Catonsville. Where we stay for quite some time.

Tests, ultrasounds, IVs, blood draws, pain meds … after hours in an ER bed, he feels a little better and the doctor decides he’s having a gall bladder attack. My ‘baby’ is officially middle aged. ๐Ÿ˜›

I had to run out around 5 p.m. to get food (had nothing to eat that day, as yet). Around 9 p.m. I had to go home as I was getting woozy and was a bit worried about my ability to drive safely. Hugh was, then, waiting for a bed to become available at the surgical hospital so he could have a de-gall-bladder-ing operation.

I was expecting to wake up with a call from Hugh at the hospital, coming out of anesthesia. Instead, he was still waiting for a bed. Long story short, I picked him up and he is going to have surgery as an outpatient. Hmm. At least his pain is gone (they think the stones that were occluding his bile duct had fallen back down into the gall bladder).

After the nine days my husband spent in hospital in December this was an unpleasant replay. Too much anxiety for me!

Tuesday I took my brother Kevin to the grocery store (our usual Tuesday activity) before I fetched Hugh. Today, (Wed.) I had two doctor’s appointments – one for Hugh and one for me. At the moment I am the only driver in our household … kinda like when my kids were in middle and high school and I was the designated driver. <chuckle>

I have done no sewing or hand work this week at all. I do not have any outside obligations tomorrow so I am hoping to sew at least a while!
