happy birthday eva!!

My beloved daughter, Eva, is 45 today. I say this not to single her out but to remark on how quickly time can pass in retrospect. 🙂 I remember with great clarity holding her as a tiny infant just home from hospital. She weighed about 6.25 pounds at birth – I remember thinking now heavy she was as I moved around the nursery, changing her diaper and nursing her. (chuckles) Of course, I was recovering from a Cesarian birth then, too.

I miss her, her husband, Alan, and her two boys, Otto and Theo. Wish we lived closer to them! They are about 950 miles away. Sigh. I always thought, in the back of my mind, that after Skip retired we would move back to Wisconsin. Now that time is here but he does not want to relocate. Ah, well, that’s life, eh? 🙂

This has been an odd week. I’ve been fighting with my sleep demons all week – can’t stay awake at all. It has been gray and rainy for a couple of days, though warmer (well, mid40s is warmer than mid20s:). The snow is slowly melting away, between sunshine and the rain. The big piles from plowing will take a bit longer I’m sure.

Yesterday was a busy day. I had the pleasure of going to Repro Club at Springwater Designs … this month’s topic was precision piecing by machine, with tips for increasing accuracy. I had three other errands to run that day: stopped by the post office to pick up a sign-for-it package for Skip, stopped at Walgreens to pick up two prescriptions, and stopped by East Branch library to pick up tax forms/instructions.

My running about was a bit complicated by the weather – I fell trying to negotiate the snow at the library. My own fault – should have avoided the problem and walked in the street to my car instead of by the sidewalk. Grr. Luckily, I fell backwards, onto the snow (soft landing, no harm done other than for my wet tush). Also, a kind man helped me get up as I was having trouble getting purchase on the ice. Sigh. Wet behind from the snow and insulted dignity but no harm done, really. Lucky me!

I came across this artist’s work recently. It’s all made with paper – a la quilling! Here is her website:

Today (Friday) was my usual time to sew with my friends Barbara and Patty. I am working on the embroidery for the quirky eagle pattern that Mimi Dietrich gave us. I managed to assemble all my thread and tools in one place for a miracle today! So much fun to see the piece grow ‘real’ as I work on it. 🙂
