Pass it along

Today was a typical Maryland summer day – in the high 80 temperatures, somewhat humid (we are not that far from the ocean in a straight line), and variably cloudy. I spent a goodly chunk of time (two, three hours?) this afternoon working on mail – the kind the snail brings. 🙂

I had quite a pile of unopened and un-dealt-with real mail that needed sorting and facing. I actually managed to do a pretty good job (by my standards) with it all – paying several bills, writing a couple of thank you notes, filing away important papers. Quite tiring. 🙂

I did spend some time preparing to teach three new embroidery stitches to friends in the evening group at Faithful Circle quilters guild. I chose Fly Stitch and what I call Spiderweb Rose and Whipped Spiderweb – found, when I went looking online for directions I could give my students to refer to, that the latter two are ‘really’ called Woven Wheel and Whipped Wheel by the Royal School of Needlework (and, apparently, others as well). Learn something new every day, eh?

Meeting tonight was well attended. There was quite a bit of good show and tell – quilts people have finished recently. My little class went well, too.

I stopped to do drive through on my way home – I had eaten a snack before leaving at 6:25 p.m. but was starting to shake with hunger by the time I finished teaching just before 9 p.m. I bought a grilled chicken wrap from the local (to the church where we meet) fast food joint and then drove home through the neighborhoods.

Of course, I forgot to go by the post office to mail the letters I generated this afternoon (sigh) so I will have to do that errand tomorrow. Meanwhile, I managed to finish a tiny weaving project I have been playing with recently:

This drawstring bag was woven on a Little Loom made from birch that came in a single sheet (3″x5″?) with two wefting needles and a beater/comb. Punch out the pieces and weave away. You can find it at helloloom.com Really a cool ‘toy’!

The yarns in my little bag came with the loom. I am eager to try some others I have but that will have to wait for a later time. The next few days will be busy for me with family duties.
